If you come from the lake, there is a short but steep climb up here.
The ruins of the Slavic castle lie on a natural spur on the "Dutzower See". The castle was once well protected on all sides by open water and swampy terrain. The ramparts have unfortunately been severely demolished over time and are now only 2.6 m high. The castle is now 53 by 73 m. Most of the pottery shards from the 10th and 11th centuries were found in the southern part of the Slavic complex. The entrance was also located here in the form of a wooden bridge or a boardwalk. During an excavation in 1960 on the opposite peninsula in the lake, pottery was also found that is very similar to that in the castle. It is therefore believed that there was a settlement here that belonged to the castle. Perhaps a bridge at a narrow part of the lake led to the ring castle. The peninsula with the settlement is today in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania, the castle wall of Kittlitz in Schleswig-Holstein. After the Christianization of the area, the village of Kneese was created 1.5 km further southeast in the 12th and 13th. Century. It is believed that this village emerged from the former Slavic settlement and castle after the older facilities had to be abandoned.
