Bike Touring Highlight
The Hünxe lock of the Wesel-Datteln-Kanal lies at channel kilometer 13,31 on the territory of Hünxe municipality. It has two lock chambers. The large lock was built in 1923, is 22 meters long and 11.85 meters wide. The smaller lock chamber was built in the years 1965 to 1967, it is 112 meters long and 11.62 meters wide. It is operated by the Wasser- und Schifffahrtsamt Duisburg-Meiderich.

The Hünxe lock is the second of six canal stages of the Wesel-Datteln canal at channel kilometer 13.31. It is always fun to watch a ship being smuggled and above all how fast it is. But even so it is always worthwhile to cycle along the canal.

Hünxe lock on the Wesel Datteln Canal is the 2 lock from the Rhine comment. Just beautiful.

Well, if you follow the canal to its confluence with the Rhine, you inevitably pass here. At this point the canal is well developed and you can watch the smugglers at work.

You can easily cross the Wesel-Datteln Canal here by bike and watch the locks being operated.
