Schlossplatz Meersburg

Beautiful square with cafes and restaurants. The Schlossplatz is also known for its annual open-air concerts.

At the Bodensee Wine Festival in September on Schlossplatz and Vorburggasse, visitors have the opportunity to compare the wines of the winemakers from Meersburg and the surrounding area.

The town of Meersburg, located on a steep southern slope, bears the name of the old castle, the appearance of which goes back to the beginning of the 16th century. Opposite is the baroque New Palace on Schlossplatz, which was built from 1741-1750 as an episcopal residence. The oldest part of Meersburg is the lower town.

The royal castle, which probably already included a small settlement, had been in the hands of royal liege bearers who named themselves after it since the middle of the 11th century, and then became the property of the bishops of Constance, who treated it as a fief the Counts of Rohrdorf spent. The oldest surviving parts of the building probably date from this period. Mersburg was mentioned in a document in 1071.

Historic castle square in the town of Meersburg on Lake Constance. This is framed by several historic half-timbered houses that are in a very well-preserved condition. In some of them there are small shops, cafes and holiday apartments. The New Palace, designed in the baroque style, is located directly on Schlossplatz and is very popular as a museum and tourist attraction. Ideal to linger and enjoy 🤩👍

Meersburg is a beautiful, historic city consisting of the Lower Town and the Upper Town. The lower town is located on the water, while the upper town is located on a hill. Great viewpoints are the New Castle and the castle.

Meersburg is located on the northern shore of Lake Constance, at the transition from Obersee to Überlinger See at an altitude of 400 to 500 meters. There is a height difference of 40 meters between the lower and upper town alone.

Beautiful old town with a wonderful view of Lake Constance in good weather, the Alps are also easy to see. Magnificent vineyards and a beautiful thermal bath are also available.
