The town of Meersburg, located on a steep southern slope, bears the name of the old castle, the appearance of which goes back to the beginning of the 16th century. Opposite is the baroque New Palace on Schlossplatz, which was built from 1741-1750 as an episcopal residence. The oldest part of Meersburg is the lower town.

Meersburg Castle (also known as the Old Castle or, in contrast to the New Castle, built in the first half of the 18th century, also called the Old Castle) in Meersburg on Lake Constance is considered to be the oldest inhabited castle due to the construction of the first castle at this location in the 7th century Germany, however, no building fabric from that time is recognizable.

Thanks to its easy accessibility by ship and car and its particularly idyllic location, Meersburg attracts around a million day-trippers during the holiday season.
You should definitely visit the upper part of the town by the castle. It's not that full then. Most of the tourists cavort on the waterfront.
