Firstly, the stone on top is in the shape of a beret.
Secondly, at the end of the 18th century, Napoleonic troops under the leadership of the imperial general Kleber are said to have invaded the surrounding towns. Citizens from nearby Geschwand fled to this place and sought protection.
However, they were discovered and massacred. (See also “Gruel Pond”)
