Ruurlo Castle is definitely worth getting off your bike for. This imposing historic structure originally dates from the fourteenth century, but its current appearance is largely due to later renovations in the seventeenth and eighteenth centuries. The last major renovation took place in the nineteenth century. Inside you can have a snack and a drink in the adjacent restaurant Oranjerie Ruurlo. The orangery is open from Tuesday to Sunday from 10:00 am for coffee, lunch and drinks.
Time left? Inside you will also find Museum More, a treasure trove for art and heritage.

Ruurlo Castle is considered one of the prettiest castles in the Achterhoek, a region with lush vegetation of forests, farmland, country estates and historic castles. His name appears in Dutch archives as early as the 14th century. Although the castle you see today does not date back to this period, it symbolizes the history of architecture over five centuries and its original layout has remained almost unchanged. Broadly speaking, its current appearance dates back to the 16th and 17th centuries, with some sensitively designed modern additions. Located next to the castle, the orangery is now a recommended restaurant for lunch, high tea or private events. holland.com

A beautiful castle with always interesting exhibitions (in addition to the other part of the MORE in Gorssel). There is service in the Orangery, but just sitting in the park is also nice.
