Ferdinand Tutenberg designed the Altonaer Volkspark, which was previously a gravel pit. His planning resulted in a hilly park landscape with meadows and forest. This "mountain" was named after Tutenberg in his honor. But it's not the highest mountain in the park, it's nearby and is called Birkenhöhe.

There are benches at the top and let the Hamburg lowland Tyrolean take a breather 😉

The Tutenberg is a landmark of the Volkspark.

In the midst of a seemingly unspoiled landscape, a strictly geometric, round hill rises, named Tutenberg after the creator of the Volkspark.

In this area of the Altona Volkspark, gentle hills, clearings, and ravines characterize the landscape and make the terrain appear almost unspoiled.

But appearances are deceptive. It was not nature, but humans who shaped this topography through gravel and sand mining.

In the center of this wooded area lies an octagonal mountain cone, once erected as a memorial to the Altona residents who fell in the First World War.

The terraced hill can be climbed from four sides via steps leading to the upper platform. Once upon a time, one had a beautiful view of the city from here and could even see the striking water towers in Winterhude, Lokstedt, or Sternschanze. Today, the dense and tall trees obscure the view.

The Tutenberg is also particularly popular with joggers, who climb the 50 steps as part of their exercise routine.

As part of the renovations to mark the 100th anniversary of Altonaer Volkspark, the Tutenberg, with its linden tree arcades around the dome, staircases, and walls, was completely renovated.
