Once an important Roman lookout tower to protect against invasion, the remains of Leahill Turret are still visible today. The turret was built around AD 122 as part of Hadrian's Wall. Until 1927, it lay undiscovered buried under the road, when it was discovered during excavations. By 1958, the remains had been fully revealed.
