The construction of the current church, dedicated to Saint Gommarus, started around the year 1470. This beautiful church is known as a 'three-aisled hall church' and was built in three phases, working from east to west. With an impressive size of 30 meters wide, 70 meters long and an internal height of 17 meters, the church has an imposing appearance.
Inside the church, where the original character has been preserved, there are several interesting elements to admire. Among these striking elements are the choir screen from 1547, the pulpit from 1566, the organ from 1549 and the library from the 16th and 17th centuries. A special feature of the church is the original tombstone floor.
This church has a special status, as it is included in the prestigious Unesco list of the 'top 100' of Dutch monuments. It is a must-see destination for visitors interested in our country's rich history and architecture.
