Liberecký castle was created through gradual development in the 16th - 19th centuries from a manor's yard on the southeastern edge of the former serf town. It lost its residential function in the 19th century, since then it has had various uses, today it is empty, owned by a local developer, and the city is trying to buy it for approximately 100 million, so that one of the centers of local cultural and social life can once again operate here.

The castle was built between 1583 and 1587 in the Renaissance style. It got its baroque appearance in the years 1785-1786. The north wing with the castle chapel was preserved in its old form. The New Palace was built from 1773–1776.
