The large stone grave in the Kunkenvenne In an extensive forest area north-east of Thuine is not only one of the most remarkable megalithic tombs in the Emsland, but all of northern Germany. With 17 yokes and a length of 25.5 m, the chamber is a real giant among the burial chambers. In addition, the condition is excellent. The capstones have remained almost completely in their original position. On the south-east long side of the chamber you can see the entrance that gave this type of megalithic tombs its name, Ganggrab.

In a very rare way, the structure is not framed by just one, but two stone wreaths. Of the outer enclosure, 51 of the formerly 58, and of the inner 60 of the 65 stones have been preserved. In the 19th century, the grave was dug several times. Stone devices, amber pearls, vessels and fragments were brought to light, which are now in the Hanover State Museum.

Great facility hidden in the woods. But easy to reach by bike.
