This embankment is almost legendary. It is the route through which Castor transports to Gorleben once rolled and which has thus also become a symbol of resistance to the use of nuclear power. The route from Hitzacker to Dannenberg is just under 10km long. However, it could take up to a week for a Castor train to pass this route.
A particular irony about the story is the fact that Gorleben as a repository was controversial from the start. With later reports, which underpinned the critical reports from 1976, the idea of Gorleben as a nuclear repository finally died ...
