6-way socketThe chemist and metallurgical engineer Carlos Otto founded the plant in 1872 for the production of refractory bricks, which were used in coking plants and for boiler and furnace systems. In the course of time, the production was expanded to "turnkey" coking plants and many other products related to the operation of collieries and coking plants.

The company expanded worldwide in the 1920s and 1930s, but after the Second World War it first had to repair war damage and then, due to the decline in the coal industry, develop new business areas and, among other things, merge and spin off parts of the company. The plant in Dahlhausen is still active in the production of refractory materials.

The factory is part of the Industrial Heritage Route.

interesting industrial culture with a not 100% well-developed bike path attached. Still nice place to drive through

On the bike path, an old company building like many others. However, the founder, Carlos Otto, is considered the father of the German coking industry. The company Dr. C. Otto & Comp. developed into the world's leading coke oven manufacturer.
