The place appears for the first time in 1416 in a document. The name comes from a mill in a remote corner. The feud farm Mahlwinkel belonged to the castle Angern from 1693 to 1723, after it had long been owned by those of Schulenburg.
The construction of the railway line from Magdeburg to Stendal 1849, whose route divides the municipal area, gave Mahlwinkel a breakpoint and new development opportunities. In addition to a post office (1897), a nursery was opened (1901). In the mid-1950s, a laundry went into operation.
On 1 July 1950, the previously independent municipality Zibberick was incorporated.
1952, a military airfield was built in the woods near Mahlwinkel and from 1957 to 1994 here were Soviet / Russian troops (3rd Army) stationed. Adjacent to the airfield, a barracks was built in 1968, in the over the entire period ever an artillery and a motor-rifle regiment was stationed. The airfield itself housed the 337th Combat Helicopter Regiment in 1989 with 60 Mil Mi-8 and Mil Mi-24, the 290th Drone Squadron with Tupolew M-143 and the 296th Helicopter Squadron with Mil Mi-2, Mil Mi-6, Mil Mi-8 and Mil Mi-24. The departure of the last helicopter took place on 24 May 1994. [1]
After the political change in 1993, a central water and sewer pipe could be installed.
On January 1, 2010, the previously independent municipalities Mahlwinkel together with the district Zibberick, Bertingen and Wenddorf with the community Angern to the new municipality Angern together.
