The new castle was built 1907/1909 on the occasion of the wedding of Robert Wagenführ, in the same park created by his father and juxtaposed to the old castle.
In 1928 the town Verthen was renamed Tangerhütte, reflecting the important iron manufacturing started here by the family 80 years earlier.

The town of Tangerhütte is located south of the Hanseatic town of Stendal. The entrepreneur Franz Wagenfuhr set up an ironworks there in the middle of the 19th century, with which he became wealthy. In 1873 he had a 12-hectare park laid out in the Lenné-Mayer style in the south-eastern part of the town. This park is now one of the most beautiful parks in Saxony-Anhalt and is part of the Saxony-Anhalt Garden Dreams network.

The two castles remained the residence of the Wagenührs von Arnim until the middle of the 20th century. At the end of the Second World War, the family fled from the Red Army in 1945. In the GDR, the “New Castle” was used as a retirement home. In 1996 it came into the possession of the city.
