In 1424 the castle served as a residence for the robber barons Hans von Bosel and Klaus von Königsmark.
When the Counts of Ruppin died out, the castle passed to Elector Joachim I as an episcopal fiefdom in 1524. Around 1548, Johann Gans Edler von Putlitz was appointed administrator of the castle by Elector Joachim II.
