The Nikolaj Kirke in the heart of Copenhagen looks back on a centuries-old history, even though after a devastating fire in the late 18th century, only the striking tower remained standing for a long time. At the beginning of the 20th century, the historic house of worship was reconstructed true to the original, but it has not served as a church for a long time now. Instead, it houses a vibrant art gallery for contemporary exhibitions. With its striking green copper spire, the building unmistakably shapes the skyline of the Danish capital to this day.

Built in the 13th century, the Nikolaikirche already has an eventful history behind it. So it burned down in 1795 partially, was then used as a fire tower and only in 1917 completely rebuilt.
