Built on the foundations of the razed Pleissenburg Castle, the monumental building has a fairy-tale effect thanks to its eclectic architectural style with elements from the late Renaissance, Baroque and Art Nouveau. And yet the building is reminiscent of the medieval stronghold where, in July 1519, the Leipzig disputation between Martin Luther and the challenger Dr. Johannes Eck took place. Luther, along with Melanchthon, fearlessly defended his views on the Reformation.
