By the way, a little tip for everyone who has not yet had the opportunity to travel to Rijeka and see the St. Vitus Cathedral for themselves. The impressive structure is depicted on the back of the 100 kuna note from 1993 and 2002. Nevertheless, the building is of course much more impressive in person and definitely worth a trip and visit.

Anyone who walks in Rijeka can admire many special buildings, but none is as special as the Cathedral of St. Vitus or St. Vitus Cathedral. The mighty and imposing baroque-style building from 1638 is a real tourist magnet at any time of the year for the many visitors who come to the popular holiday resort of Rijeka.

The mighty church in the old town

In the old town of Rijeka, a church was built in the 17th century for Saint Vitus, the city's patron saint, according to the plans of the Jesuit and architect G. Briano. The well-known Venetian church of Santa Maria della Salute served as a model. Since 1925, the octagonal building has been the episcopal church of the Archbishop of Rijeka. Particularly worth seeing are the baroque marble altars from 1696 to 1740, the high-quality pulpits from 1731, the entrance portal, the gravestones, the painted window glass and the wooden cross.
