Großer Birkensee

The Großer Birkensee with its wooded shores is beautiful. There are sunbathing lawns between the trees where you can relax comfortably. Nothing stands in the way of jumping into the water to cool off and bathe. In the Birkensee you can swim safely again, because there is no longer any risk of swimming due to exposure. The Birkensee is a recreational area and belongs to the city Röthenbach. It consists of the Great Birkensee and the Kleiner Birkensee. Both bodies of water are fed by the groundwater of the Röthenbach stream, which flows into the Pegnitz in the town of Röthenbach.

Lots of sunbathing lawns, flattened steep banks, 4.6 hectares of water and only six meters depth make the Birkensee a perfect place to relax in the summer. Birkensee is very nice, but in terms of water quality, please be careful !!! Toxins (fluoride surfactants) were detected in high concentrations a few years ago. The fish had the highest concentration of venom in Bavaria and the competent authorities have 4 (or 5) concreted around the lake pipes to take water samples can.
