The Banff Springs Hotel building was built between 1914 and 1928. The original five-storey wooden hotel was opened by the Canadian Pacific Railway in 1888 and became the North Wing of the new building. It was destroyed by fire in 1926.
The building has been on the list of National Historic Sites of Canada since June 1988.
