The Überetscher Railway was a single-track, 15 km long, standard-gauge local railway, electrified from 1911, which served the fruit and wine-growing region as well as the tourist destination of the Überetsch (Eppan, Kaltern, Girlan, Mendel) from 1898 to 1963/1971 (discontinuation of passenger traffic / discontinuation of freight traffic). to Bolzano and the national and international railway network.
Passenger transport ended on August 1, 1963, and the total shutdown took place on May 1, 1971.

Überetsch cycle path: Bozen - Eppan – Kaltern
The cycle route connects the city of Bolzano with the wine-growing region between Eppan and Kaltern and with Lake Kaltern
From Bolzano the route leads along the Eisack south to the “Meran - Eppan” junction. Here the path follows the Etsch for a few km to the north, then it goes to Eppan/Kaltern over a half-timbered bridge. Here, under Sigmundskron Castle, the path begins to climb slightly.
The Überetscher Railway used to run at this point. The cycle path winds up through the wine country between Girlan and Frangart, passes through a few tunnels and finally, after an underpass, reaches St. Michael. From the former St. Michael Eppan train station, we continue south, the path runs parallel to the street until we reach the “Kreuzweg” settlement.
