Road Cycling Highlight
The Kalterer lake is picturesquely embedded in the South Tyrolean vineyards, not far from Tramin, where the well-known and exquisite Gewürztraminer comes from. So the place is perfect as a stopover or stage destination of a beautiful road bike tour. How about this after-ride program: first a dip in the refreshing waters of the lake, then on the sun terrace of a restaurant to enjoy a delicious meal and a glass of regional wine. From here, the anticipation of it can be great.

South Tyrol's largest bathing lake and the warmest bathing lake in the Alps lie in the middle of orchards and vineyards.
The idyllic Lake Kaltern is located in a hollow about 4 km from the center of Caldaro and Termeno. Even if it is one of the largest lakes in South Tyrol, its dimensions are manageable: 1.8 km long, 0.9 km wide and max. 5.6 m deep, it covers an area of approx. 155 ha. This does not detract from its popularity. In the warm summer months there are numerous swimmers, sailors, surfers, sun worshipers and nature lovers, a total of four bathing establishments by the lake and a surf school are open from May to September.
The lake itself is located at an altitude of 216 m, on a hill above you can see the Leuchtenburg, the symbol of this area and a popular hiking destination with a beautiful view of Lake Kaltern. At the beginning of May the water temperatures already climbed to 17 ° to 19 ° C, in summer they reached over 28 ° C.
