The city was granted the right to manufacture coins in 1321 by Duke Rudolf of Saxony and in 1621. The small space inside the tower certainly only offered enough space to store the copper, the finished coins and the embossing tools. Until 1910, the tower also served as a prison, or at least that's what it was called. In his letter of June 9, 1899, Provincial Conservator Bluth requested that the parapet be repaired. Whether this was done is certain, since work on the battlements was resumed in 1910. In 1983 a ceiling was put in as a work platform, all openings were barred and the largest opening was provided with a rigid wooden blind. The holes in the tower helm were closed and the joints filled at risk of death.
