The parish was founded in 1830 in association with the Church of Scotland. The first church of St. Andrew was built in one of the oldest Presbyterian communities in the country. As the congregation grew, the church became too small, so a new church was built and completed in 1876.
St. Andrew's Church became one of Canada's most influential Presbyterian churches and in 1890 founded the 'St. Andrew's Institute'. The center was a pioneering social work organization in Toronto.
St Andrew's medieval style is based on the historic St Magnus Cathedral in Kirkwall, Scotland.
