The Baldeneysee near Essen Werden is not only particularly beautiful, but is also full of history. On the opposite slope is the Villa Hügel, once the home of the Krupp family. One could write several books about this alone ...
Here at the dam you can take a little break and just enjoy the beautiful area for a moment. If the break is a little longer, a short detour to Werden's old town is recommended.

The path from Kettwig to Lake Baldeney leads through one of the most beautiful sections of the Ruhr, with lots of nature on both banks and the large Ruhr island on the east bank in Essen-Werden. Most of the islands before it are nature conservation, concretely: bird sanctuary, and of course forbidden to enter. In Werden there are then on the eastern shore again a paddle boat rental, whose customers should keep an eye on.
Finally you reach the lock Baldeney. The situation here is a bit tricky: on the eastern shore in front of the dam, it is extremely shallow, sometimes well below 50cm deep. Depending on the water level, even a flat pebble island is formed there. The ground is not healthy for any boat hull. West of the Baldeney lock - which is almost in the middle of the dam - is a weir, so that there is a flow directly in front of the entrance to the lock, which moves the boat to starboard. So carefully and at the same time not too slow retract into the lock
