A nice, easy way from the biathlon center to the Holzknechtmuseum.

Already in the 1920s there were several ski jumps in Ruhpolding in the Chiemgau. In December 1961, SC Ruhpolding started the construction of the new large hill at Zirmberg, initiated by Toni Plenk, which had been preceded by a search for a location and a planning phase of almost a decade. Already in February 1962 the K86 natural ski jump could be completed in record time for a total of 150,000 DM. Helmut Wegscheider set the first jump record with 82 m.

The official opening competition with an international field of participants took place on March 6th, 1962. The Italian Dino de Zordo won and the Pole Piotr Wala jumped a hill record of 91 meters. In 1963 the German Championships were held and Wegscheider again jumped a hill record of 101 m in front of about 20,000 spectators. Further highlights were the competition for the Kongsberg Cup in March 1964, as well as the pre-Olympic training camps of numerous nations in the same year.
