The bridge connects the Astoria neighborhoods with Randall Island and Harlem. It is particularly interesting as a bike connection between Astoria and Randall Island, as there is no other bike connection from Brooklyn. However, there are steps to overcome both on the way up and on the way down to Randall Island (here the bike path leaves the bridge for the time being). The path is directional on the right and left sides of the bridge.
