The Martinsburg, built at the end of the 14th century on the banks of the Rhine with a strong hexagonal keep, was a toll castle. The picturesque building complex was erected together with the town fortifications. The pointed arch gate in the east wall still shows a delicate machicolation with a coat of arms. The further tower and building parts were created in the 14th and 18th centuries.

Today, the castle is privately owned.

It was built in 1298 as a toll castle for the Archbishops of Mainz and was originally named Burg Lahnstein. The Archbishop of Mainz also built this complex next to the city wall in Lahnstein, which is one of the few castles on the Middle Rhine that has remained undamaged. It is now privately owned and houses apartments and offices, as well as a carnival museum and a mint.
