Built at the end of the 14th century on the banks of the Rhine with a strong hexagonal keep, Martinsburg was a customs castle. The picturesque building was erected together with the city fortification. The Spitzbogentor in the east wall still shows a dainty Wehrerker with coat of arms. The other tower and building parts were built in the 14th and 18th centuries.Today the castle is privately owned.
