It is the largest rocky monolith in Europe, with a volume of over half a million cubic meters, descended into the valley due to a major landslide from the Valle di Preda (the "Préda" is the local toponym). It was "conquered" for the first time by the shepherds who painstakingly carved a stone stairway on the west side which, even today, represents the easiest way to climb to the top.
