As the founder of this cross, the clergyman Anton Arweiler aimed to create a monument of gratitude and remembrance for the suffering endured during the Thirty Years' War. Originally, the crucifixion group formed the endpoint of a Stations of the Cross, which led up from the village and was used by believers as a processional and devotional path. Over time, the structure was damaged and renewed several times, with a comprehensive restoration in 1969 particularly securing its present form.

Hiking

The three crosses or the monumental crucifixion group made of tuff, also known as the Calvary, originally formed the end of a station path starting from Pillig. The memorial was erected in 1652 by order of the Pilliger pastor Anton Ahrweiler.
In 1969 the crucifixion group was renovated by the Pillig Rifle Society, among others.
