Leopoldsplatz (abbreviation Leo) in downtown Baden-Baden is named after Grand Duke Leopold von Baden (1790-1852). Historically, it is the connection between the spa district, the old town and the spa district. Until the completion of the Michael tunnel in 1989, the square was a major hub for car traffic. Since the tunnel was opened, it has been closed to through traffic and is only used as a route by public transport (buses, taxis) in Baden-Baden.
