Typically Frisian and yet unique - here a “Strieker” (runaway) on the village square

The ram in Koldenbüttel is an impressive monument erected in 2001 to pay tribute to the region's sheep. This work of art, created by sculptor Lothar Frieling, is located near the village's old church. It is carved from metamorphic rock and symbolizes the region's close connection with sheep farming, which traditionally plays an important role in North Friesland. The monument reminds us that there are about as many sheep as people living in North Friesland, which underlines the importance of sheep farming to the local culture and economy.
