The castle dates back to the 12th century and has been rebuilt for decades. Inside there is a bicycle parking lot with charging stations.

Wow, you wouldn't expect that, over cobblestones, through the gate and a great view of the castle - definitely worth the drive

The place was first mentioned in 1157 when the bailiff of Kadolzburg, a "Helmericus de Kadoldesburc" agreed to an exchange of goods between the diocese of Würzburg and the monastery of Heilsbronn. The place name can be explained as Kadolds Burg (Castle of Kadold). If it goes back to Count Kadold, who founded the Herrieden monastery around 793, it would have been an early medieval fortification from the 8th century. It is more likely that it emerged from an allodial rule of the Abenbergs in the early 11th century.[6][7] However, nothing has survived from this early period. The oldest known complex of the castle was built around 1250 under the Hohenzollerns, the Nuremberg burgrave Konrad I and his son Friedrich III, when they expanded Cadolzburg into their residence. In 1397 Frederick VI received assigned the "low mountain" land with the Cadolzburg residence. 20 years later he received the title of elector of Brandenburg and became the ancestor of the Prussian kings and the German emperors from 1871. Under his son Albrecht Achilles von Brandenburg the Cadolzburg became a hunting residence. In the middle of the 14th century, the spelling "Cadelspurgk" of the place name was common and appears as such in numerous imperial city documents of Nuremberg. As part of the Principality of Ansbach, the town belonged to the Franconian Empire from 1500 to 1806.

The castle was in ruins for years and in 1982 the reconstruction began, which I think went very well.
The castle is well worth a visit

The slope is called Heidenberg and, as already mentioned, was regularly used as a selective climb in the spring classic, which unfortunately no longer takes place.

There is a steep driveway in the village at the Cadolzburg. In previous bike races this was always a crucial point to get away from.
