Horneburg Castle seen here is just the modest remnant of the massive fortress complex from the Middle Ages. This is the east wing of the so-called outer bailey of the Horneburg, which was renovated in 1830 using existing building elements. The castle of Horneburg is actually a mansion from the 19th century, which was built on the old parcel. The building is unfortunately not in a very good condition, it has been secured by the community only in a makeshift manner. The restoration is quite complex and so the castle serves as summer residence for a hornet queen and her state.

Originally built in the Middle Ages Horneburg was demolished after the 30 Years War. The moat and island are still largely preserved today.
