At the Garrensee there are three small but very beautiful free swimming areas.
Together with the neighboring Plötscher See and the Schwarzen Kuhle, the lake lies in an ice age depression, i.e. in an area on a mainland that is deeper than sea level and therefore has no runoff. A glacier near Ratzeburg covered blocks of dead ice with its meltwater with slightly inclined alluvial cones. The three lakes mentioned were formed from the melted ice. Since the lakes have no drainage, dead plants sink to the bottom. The lake is leased by a water sports club.
