Over the years, patients, residents of the home, employees, senior directors, as well as contemporary witnesses and victims of a turbulent history of psychiatry were buried on the area of around 14,100 m². During the First World War, around 450 patients starved to death in the institution. The Mannheim local legend, "Blumepeter" Peter Schäfer (* April 5, 1875 in Plankstadt; † June 15, 1940 in Wiesloch), found his final resting place in the PZN cemetery.
