The Rödelseer Gate is perhaps the most beautiful gate of Iphofen's well-preserved city fortifications. It is located in the north of the town, on the road towards Rödelsee.

Very well preserved and nice to look at. In the north of the Iphofen old town.

An impressive medieval city gate. Crooked and crooked but with its own charm 👍

The oldest surviving sections are from the 13th century.

The Rödelseer Tor is one of the medieval city gates of the Lower Franconian town of Iphofen. It is located on the north side of the village, on the old road towards Rödelsee. The Vorwerk of the Rödelseer Tor, a semicircular tower with a conical roof and archway, is the symbol of the city. The tower, built in 1455/1456, is covered with wooden bricks and is designed with half-timbering towards the city. On the front he bears the coat of arms of Johann von Grumbach. [2] The tower was extended with a tower keeper's house and a residential building on the side. A “little hatch” on the outside allowed those who were late to enter the city without the gate having to be opened.

The Rödelseer Gate is the most famous and oldest of the three remaining city gates in Iphofen. And what makes it special? The gate was not designed on an architect's drawing board, one could almost say it grew organically - and that is probably what makes it so secret. At the beginning there was the actual gate construction - the old gate still shows the loophole through which people could be let in late at night. Only later was the original pointed roof with hollow tiles added, and finally the rectangular structure on the left side was created. The contrast between the oxblood-red half-timbering, the light plaster surfaces and the brickwork is certainly picturesque.

This is the Rödelsee Gate in Iphofen. It's one of the four gates of the medieval city fortifications and is still very well preserved. I find its solid construction particularly impressive. Today, it's a great photo opportunity and a good starting point for a stroll through the old town.
