The now approximately 7.2 hectare community park on Bremer Straße was created on the initiative of lawyer Lois Müller, who also co-founded the Verden Promenade Association.
Work began in 1883, with financial support from the former mayor Münchmeyer. The stone bench, created in 1913, was dedicated to Mayor Münchmeyer as a thank you.
From 1928 onwards, the Bürgerpark gradually took on its current form. In 1950 the monument was erected to commemorate the homeland in the former German eastern territories.
