The now approximately 7.2 hectare community park on Bremer Straße was created on the initiative of lawyer Lois Müller, who also co-founded the Verden Promenade Association.

Work began in 1883, with financial support from the former mayor Münchmeyer. The stone bench, created in 1913, was dedicated to Mayor Münchmeyer as a thank you.

From 1928 onwards, the Bürgerpark gradually took on its current form. In 1950 the monument was erected to commemorate the homeland in the former German eastern territories.

In recent years, the playground has been redesigned, a street soccer field and a beach volleyball field as well as two boules courts have been created.

There is a fenced-in dog run area directly on Bremer Straße.
