The wooden figure of the Madonna and Child is estimated to date from the 12th century and is the spiritual center of the historic pilgrimage site. Numerous miracle scenes are attributed to the sanctuary. According to legend, the small iron bell at the top of the chapel is said to have miraculously rung by itself in the past when the Virgin Mary performed a miracle far away.
