In 1882 the old, dilapidated chapel was demolished and construction of the church began. In 1883 the neo-Romanesque church was completed. The dimensions are: approx. 28 m x approx. 9 m / tower approx. 33 m high. The ceremonial inauguration was carried out on September 5, 1883 by Dean Johann Hubert Caumanns from Bensberg.
The church has been renovated and repaired several times. The first major repairs were made in the early 1930s. In 1930 new bells were hung in the tower. The unstable tower got cracks and had to be extensively renovated.
The second major action was due for the same reason. After the installation of new bells in 1958, cracks formed again. The tower was reinforced in the area of the belfry and the masonry was reinforced. Another general renovation (particularly the vault, roof and tower) took place in 1969/70. Completely unexpectedly, another overhaul followed in 2004, since a lightning strike destroyed not only mechanical damage to the plaster and masonry, but above all the electrical system.

In an unconfirmed tradition, a chapel was mentioned as early as the 13th century. A chapel was documented in 1550 and 1582.
The chapel was financed through the income from a leased farm (chapel property). This income was used to maintain and repair the chapel. Part of the income had to be paid to the responsible priest in Kürten. It can be assumed that the chapel had a rather lonely existence with sparse church services for many centuries.
