Here, under large trees, there is a memorial that commemorates the historic battle of July 9, 1760 during the Seven Years' War.
On July 16, 1760, almost 4,600 French soldiers camped between Emsdorf and Erksdorf in a bivouac more than 4 km long. When an Allied formation of Hanoverian, Hessian and British troops led by the Hereditary Prince of Brunswick encountered the camp while attempting to destroy the French field bakeries near Marburg, a six-hour battle ensued that is still remembered in British military history to this day. At that time, George III, King of England, gave his participating dragoon regiment the honor of bearing the name of the battle on the flag. This tradition is still followed by an English regiment that still bears the name "Emsdorf" on the troop flag. In the small Scottish town of Lundis Links, an "Emsdorf Street" still commemorates the battle.
Unfortunately, memories of these events have largely been lost in Emsdorf and the surrounding area.
Further on, on the so-called heath, there was probably also the deserted settlement "Elmsdorf". (Field names: auf dem Elmsdorf, Elmsdorfer Kreuz, Elmsdorfer Kirchhof)
