Giorgi (Goga) Abramishvili was a surgeon who was killed on August 5, 2009, during the Russian aggression while performing his duties. He was a doctor in the emergency department of the Gori Military Hospital when a missile, fired from a Russian military helicopter, hit a group of medical staff on the hospital grounds. He lost his life in the process.
In 2013, that hospital was renamed the "Giorgi Abramishvili Military Hospital of the Ministry of Defense of Georgia". The street where this memorial plaque hangs was also named after him in memory of the man.
