The Großräschener See is one of ten lakes in the heart of the Lusatian Lakeland that will be connected with each other via canals in the future. With the IBA terraces and the Seehotel, the development of tourism on Großräschener See began years ago. The Großräschener See has been flooded since 2007 and reached its final level in 2018. The water has filled the basin in the newly built harbor, the pier at the IBA terraces, which were awarded the Brandenburg Architecture Prize, is now in the water. The city harbor in Großräschen was built while still dry. From 2021, guests can expect a port with around 130 boat berths, a harbor promenade and all the important services for water sports enthusiasts. Boat tours are already possible. The Ilse Canal to the neighboring Sedlitz Lake was completed in 2014. This can only be used on the waterway when the Sedlitz Lake has also reached its final water level. The footpath and bike path through the ship tunnel are free. The Großräschener See was created by flooding the former Meuro opencast mine.
