    The area, known as “Boom Camp”, supplied one of the first sawmills on the North Channel of Lake Huron with White Pine (Weymouth pine), which was marketed as valuable timber from the mid-19th century.
    The local Ojibway First Nation were "resettled" to a reserve on the Mississagi River (1850); this is now part of the land of the Mississauga First Nation.
