In the northern part of the municipality, there is a unique collection of log houses in the Volary Alpine style. These wide, two-story houses have a lower roof pitch than is typical for buildings in the Bohemian Forest. The building type, in which all utility rooms are located under one roof, was brought to the Bohemian Forest in the 16th century by settlers from Tyrol or Styria. There were once more than 200 of these houses, but many were destroyed by fires. Today, fourteen of the historic wooden log houses still stand, the oldest dating back to 1750.
