The impressive baroque ensemble stands empty and is in danger of decay.
The estate was originally owned by the von Buchwald family, who had been resident there since the 16th century. The Gottorf Conferenzrat and Lübeck canon Schack von Buchwald (1705-1770) left the present castle from 1743 as the successor to a medieval moated castle for himself and his wife Eleonore Elisabeth, b. of Plessen, build. In 1782 the property passed to the Eckermann family, who lived here for several generations until 1945.
