A very nice little church, but the really interesting thing can be seen to the right of the church. A round tower, the remains of an old castle. The castle ruins of the Lords of Reurieth, mentioned in a document in 1171, stand on the edge of the village near the church. The Counts of Henneberg later owned the castle, which was destroyed in the Peasants' War. The Lords of Heldburg rebuilt it, but it has been in ruins since the 19th century.

The listed Evangelical Lutheran village church of Reurieth stands in the municipality of Reurieth on a hill next to a castle ruin and surrounded by a small cemetery in the Hildburghausen district in Thuringia. The exact construction time of the church, one of the oldest in the area, is not known. A people's priest was already mentioned in a document in 1287.An art-historical special feature is the wooden ceiling in the nave from 1596. It is painted with symbols, coats of arms, ornaments and arabesques of Christian art and has been preserved in its original condition. The cross vault in the chancel was painted over white around 1900. The former painting was uncovered during a renovation in 1934. Paintings of Christian art came to light, the chronology of which is still to come. The organ was created in 1878 by the organ builder Theodor Kühn from Schmiedefeld.Source:de.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dorfkirche_Reurieth

There is no exact date of origin of the small church, only a tradition that it was first mentioned in the 13th century. The ceiling from 1596 with symbols, coats of arms, ornaments and arabesques of Christian art has been preserved in its original condition.
