Cycling
As you cycle here along the Via Verde, your eye is immediately drawn to the characteristic, semi-circular recess in the old stone railway wall. This is not just an architectural detail, but a piece of living railway history!
In the past, when this cycle path was still an active railway line directly along the Adriatic Sea, these indentations served as safety niches (nicchie di ricovero). Railway workers maintaining the track could quickly take shelter here when a steam train thundered past.
