In the period from about 1900 to 1960 here Weißjura mass lime were mined and processed mainly in lime works. In particular, the lime works should make the Härtsfeld railway, which runs from Aalen to Neresheim, more profitable. The buildings of the Härtsfeldwerke were demolished in 1978, the factory grounds were recultivated. The adjoining terraces with a height difference of about 50 m characterize the special character of the quarry and were left to themselves.
