Nice historic place on the Zeeland island of Walcheren in the most westerly point of the Netherlands. Perfect place for a pit stop in one of the many catering facilities.

Westkapelle, popularly Wasschappel, lies behind a huge sea dike at the western headland of Walcheren. The village is known for its lighthouse, the five-kilometer sea dike and the annual funfair.

The tank on top of the hill is legendary. I can really recommend the chips at the foot of the wall. Delicious.

The westernmost point of the Netherlands is a place for families who want to holiday on the coast and take it a little quieter.

The beach is suitable for children

Westkapelle with a Willibrorduskirche are already mentioned in 1071. About 150 years later, in 1223, the fishing village receives the city rights. In 1253 the Battle of Westkapelle, the military culmination of the Flemish War of Succession, took place near the village. Due to the constant threat of protective dunes by wind and sea, it was decided to 1432 to 1470 a protective dike and a new church southeast of the village to build (Wikipedia).

Very nice town with a few cafes and restaurants.
Ideal to take a short break and enjoy the view over the sea
or something to eat in the many restaurants and cafes.
Very nicely located on the edge of the dunes.
